I am currently reading Max Lucado's 'A Love Worth Giving'...it is very practical and gives several good points on how to live out 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. I just finished reading the chapter on 'love is not proud and does not boast'...so good!
Max talked about how in today's society there is rank in about every situation. Which in one sense is a good thing to maintain order. But on the other hand, can provide times of boasting and being prideful.
If we truly love as Christ loves though, we will look past these rankings and treat everyone more important than ourselves. Love puts others before self. For Christ, my soul was more important than His blood. My eternal life was more important than His earthly life. My place in heaven was more important to Him than His place in heaven. He gave up so that I could have eternal life.
Through this chapter, I was reminded to always be a person of humility and how I can go about portraying this characteristic. True humility is not thinking lowly of myself but thinking accurately of myself. I do not need to think, "I can't do anything", but rather "I can't do everything; I know my part and am happy to do it".
