I told myself I would never become a vegetarian...until today in nutrition:
1. 80% of America's beef market, 75% of our poultry market, and 40% of America's pork market is processed and injected with (unhealthy) preservatives and steroids.
2. In the above percentages, these meats may also contain bacteria (E Coli, Salmonella, etc).
3. Also, from these percentages, a good majority of the meat is unclean...meaning they were picked up from the farms caked with manure and not rinsed off when taken to the slaughter houses, which means that some of the manure has made its way into the meat we eat.
4. Food companies/factories tend to even process sick or injured animals which adds to the bacteria intake we get from meat.
5. Food companies, especially fast food restaurants, are more concerned with quantity over quality...they process meat to make more of it, preserve it to make it last longer, inject it to make it taste better, and sell it for less so that we will buy it.
For more, watch the movies 'Supersize Me' and 'Food Inc.', and read the book 'Fast Food Nation'.
